Reimagining Jane Austen

Objective: This project aimed to redesign the book covers of Jane Austen's most well-known work and unify them into a trilogy set. Jane Austen's novels are notable works of classical literature, often in the genre of romance. Taking traditional Jane Austen cover designs into consideration, I wanted to elevate and update the covers to appeal to a modern audience.

Solution: In the early stages of research, I noticed that the covers of Pride and Prejudice have ornamental/floral motifs and script typography. I wanted to update the floral motifs and make them feel more contemporary. Script writing can be hard to decipher at times, so a feminine serif typeface adds accessibility while retaining a sense of delicacy. I used a monochromatic color palette to distinguish each book as a standalone, while also allowing the books to be unified as a trilogy set. Each book also utilizes a different flower to further the distinction that each book is separate from each other, but all a part of the Jane Austen universe.
